Eating in UK

Every time I heard that UK is an expensive place to stay. But after being here for 3 days now I found that if you don't convert to Malaysian money, things here are cheap and in huge portion too.

This bacon and egg bun is 1.80GBP and it is so filling that it becomes our breakfast and lunch!!

The subway bun are equally big too at 1.99GBP with steaks, eggs, lettuce and cheese

and we tried the one-shot espresso at Subway too...super strong !!

Leeds and Liverpool Canal

We went for a long walk along Leeds an Liverpool canal on a bright and sunny day. Son#2 told us that it hasn't been so sunny for the last 3 weeks! Winter's weather here is gloomy and hubby remarked that now he understands why the Queen always look so gloomy...all because of England's weather...Lol..

It is a nice walk and surprisingly everybody greets ever body on the path of 2 hours walk.
Scenery during our walk:

Jetlag

Blogging with outside temperature 0 degrees Celsius and indoor temperature of 19 degrees Celsius

I have heard much about jet lag but not till I myself experience it , only now I know how does one feel when having jet lag.

Arrived Burnley at around 3.30 pm local time and it is 11.30 pm Malaysian time. I just cannot open my eyes and I felt so disorientated too. Dropped my head on the pillow and slept till I heard son#2 telling me that he is going to the nearby supermarket to buy foodstuff. He was asking whether we prefer chicken, beef or lamb. Blurringly I told him anything will do and back to my sleep again.

At around 7.30 pm ( UK time) he woke me up saying dinner is ready. That is supposed to be 3.30 am Malaysian time and I am still supposed to sleep. But son #2 cooked up nice grilled lamb with mint and olive mixed rice for us. Delicious meal.

And this morning I woke up at 2 am (UK time) tossing here and there and just couldn't sleep anymore cos it is already 10 am in Malaysia. And hence I end up with all theses post entries

Manchester, here we are.

Reached Manchester safe and sound after flying for 14 hours with 2 hours of stopping over at Dubai airport.

My personal impression of English old folks is they are quite arrogant. 2 experiences at the Manchester airport proved my point. While waiting for our luggage, a tall old man just come forward and pushed me aside telling me that I have blocked his view of the bags rolling on the conveyor belt. I was thinking....what the heck..the belt is so long and what is my width of my head compared to the whole length of the conveyor belt where he can stand!!! Then another old folk again tell me I am blocking his view that is after I moved from the first complained position .. this is so called the Ang-Moh arrogant superiority complex!!

Pictures of Manchester:

Train that we took to the coach station: GBP 3.60 pp

Most buildings in Manchester look like this:

I spotted this cute and patriotic car near The national Express Office in Manchester
A Christmas bazaar in Manchester City
We will be back in Manchester next week or so to have the real sightseeing . At the moment , we are just passing through Manchester on our way to Burnley with our heavy luggage.

Flying with Emirates

For record purpose, this is my first blog entry from "Eng-kok", the Queen's land.
Outside temperature is now 5 degrees Centigrade.

I flew with Emirates Airline from Kuala Lumpur to Manchester via Dubai on 22nd November at 2 am. This is the first time I fly with Emirates Airlines after hearing so much about the Emirates from son and my friend who flies frequently from Kuching to Manchester.
I prerequested for diabetic meal when I booked my ticket with one of the travel agency. But when I get my first snack on my KL-Dubai sector, I was like errr.. !!like that kah?? Ok, let me show you what I got for my snack:

For breakfast I got this miserable thing which I have no idea what it is...taste terrible!! Squint your eye to see the MAS logo on the meal box. that explains the lousiness of the meal, I think!

Hubby got this for a normal meal (non diabetic meal)which is not much better than mine!!

At that stage I really regret for prebooking those diabetic meal. On arriving at Dubai. I told the front desk officer that I wanted to cancel my order for that diabetic meal for my connecting flight from Dubai to Manchester. I was told that I cannot change since my notice is less than 24 hours...sigh sigh..am I going to suffer for the connecting flight.???...:-(

Boarded the connecting flight at 7.15 am, Dubai time . Now if you complain about work efficiency in Malaysia, then wait till you see working attitude in Dubai airport, then Malaysia is more boleh lor.

On board Emirates Airline to Manchester I am very very pleased this time with Emirates. Air hostesses on board are super nice and the food are abundant...non stop servings, super duper nice, let me show you what I get to prove my words:

For snacks I got this:

For lunch I got this:
- smoked salmon with salad
-grilled herb chicken
- wholemeal bread ( now I have wholemeal phobia, after having so much wholemeal bread on board Emirates!!))

and hubby got this:
- stir fried beef
- hot smoked peppered salmon
- white chocolate profiterole
- chocolate

For snacks and drinks in between we ordered this :

Red wine and the milky liquid is a liqueur called Baileys as recommended by the air hostess. I remembered once on my trip back from China , out of ignorance , I ordered bloody Mary and it is indeed bloody. Hence this time around I am smarter than before, I asked for air hostess's recommendation and it was indeed nice. Baileys tastes like butterscotch. She also recommends Tia Maria which I haven't tried yet

White wine:

Second round of red wine to conter-effect the cold weather we will face on arrival.

Besides food and lots of alcohols , Emirates has this individula screens for everyone in board to get info on filghts with their airshow, showing you exactly the realtime flight route, front camera and downeard camera showing you the view down below without looking out of the window and the realtime landing and its runway.... plus entertainemnt with over 300+ movies and 30+ games

Hotel room:

View from the hotel window:

If they have can have a free broadband in each room then it will be a heaven to stay at that hotel....

Queensbay Mall Penang

After Taiping , my son drove us to Penang new shopping Mall, Queensbay mall. Very nice, posh and super long shopping mall.

View of Penang bridge from the car:

Notice that cute robot there? I doubt what is the purpose of having that robot there? And how many people actually notice that robot? Maybe by having a bikini dressed girl will bring the message across better hor! Somebody told me that in KL they have similar robot like this followed by 2 real bangala doing the same actions as that robot...maybe the gabermen found out later it is cheaper to employ the bangala then to buy the robot...

Queensbay Mall

Very windy here since it is overlooking Pulau Jerejak and we saw a lot of couples pak-toh-ing there.

I like the decor of this restaurant.

Taiping Zoo

Son: Where do you want to go today?
Me: Carnivall in Sungai Petani or Bukit Merah Water Park?
Son: Those parks are quite small lah and mini in size as compared to Sunway Lagoon
Dad: Then go to Taiping Zoo lor
Son: Ok let's jom

But we stop at one of the R&R perhentian to have our lunch, and interestingly this perhentian have a lot of ariwana for sale and this one costs RM 13,800!!

Admission ticket for the zoo is only RM 5 per adult and there is no charge for bringing camera into the zoo.
Once you enter the entrance there were be these "trains" waiting for you to bring you round the zoo at RM 3 per pax . I personally think it is better to walk than sitting on the train especially if you want to take as many photos of the animals as possible.

So these are the animals that are found in Taiping zoo.

Somebody suggested that that female gorilla should be wearing bra lar:

This is indeed a mute swan!!

In the snake house there are lots of snakes , some of them have just shed or molt their external skins.
Beautiful birds:
Some more snakes from the snake house:
Leopard and the horny deer:

Cute monkeys:Doesn't it look sad?
Babi bodoh : they have nose that are like mine detectors!!

Flamingo standing on one leg!!

Dyed flamingo

RM5 is indeed value for money to see so many animals. No wonder people say Taiping Zoo is very worth visiting!!
