Xmas 2006

Another Xmas means another year is coming to an end...soon 2006 will be out and 2007 will be in.

For Xmas 2006, I didn't make any yule log this year for health reason and also becos the stayin family members are getting less and less, so there is nobody to help me to eat what I have enjoyed making like yule log, cheese cakes, cornflakes biscuits etc etc.
Chrismas Eve I went to Southern CakeHouse to buy some pastry or buns for after Midnight Mass snacks .This cake called the 5 Grains Cheese cake caught my eyes cos 5 grains means i can eat and it was made from wholemeal flour, oat, black rice flour, soya flour ( ???)and brown sugar...very healthy since no refined white flour is used. Real heathy and nutritious cake .. tastewise very goodand there is two thick layer of cheese in between . Price : RM 39.90

Had a Chrismas Eve potluck at my neighbour's house. I got Leg of Lamb ( RM 120 ) from baked2order. The leg of lamb is nicely done . Everybody enjoyed it. Lamb really goes well with mint sauce. My neighbour ordered a turkey which is equally nice too. Only now i know turkey meat is so tender.

Attended Midnight mass at St Joseph Cathedral ..

Decorwise - no much difference from last year

Bubbles still appear like last year... the decor , the mass, the bubbles makes me confused!! is it Xmas 2006 or Xmas 2005 ??????.. very confused indeed

Finally watched EWTN ...live from St Peter's Basilica . every year I made it a point to "attend " this solemn Midnit Mass.

What for breakfast and tea??

Latest update :

Just have my blood glucose tested at my ex-student pharmacy.. very consoling pharmist and very consoling readings too... 4 more to drop...hopefully can achieve it by the end of 2006.

So what have i been having for breakfast for the last few days?

Bitter gourd ( skin, flesh, seeds hempalang blended with half a cup of water ) very filling drink.. dont feel hungry at all after drinking it.,and interestingly after blending it is not as bitter as it is. Bitter gourd has wonderful benefits . It is said to contain the plant insulin.

Diabetes treatment using Bitter GourdAmong the several home remedies that have proved beneficial in controlling diabetes, perhaps the most important is the use of bitter gourd. It has lately been established that bitter gourd contains a hypoglycaemic or insulin-like principle, designated as 'plantinsulin', which has been found valuable in lowering the blood and urine sugar levels. It should, therefore, be included liberally in the diet of the diabetic. For better results, the diabetic should take the juice of about four or five karelas every morning on an empty stomach. The seeds can be added to food in a powdered form. Diabetics can also use bitter gourd in the form of a decoction by boiling the pieces in water or in the form of dry powder

For tea i took this :

yes, cinnamon aka kayu manis . From a stick of it, peel or break a bit, put into the teapot and pour hot boiling water into the teapot and drink as tea. Caution : Don't put too much cinnamon cos the strong aroma might make you giddy after drinking.

Because of the cutting down of starchy food so if hungry in between ,i munch this :

yes, cinnamon again cos cinnamon can lower our blood sugar too despite of the name kayu manis ...Cinnamon spice produces healthier blood

New life, New Diet and a New Orbitrac

Got a new Orbitrac to start a new exercise life at home--following the working from home concept.
Disadvantages of exercise outdoors
1, Weather permiting ..if raining.... cannot exercise at all
2. Time and petrol consuming to drive from home to exercise place ..be it
Amphitheatre or Resevoir park
3. Saftey-- counts a lot these days - snatch thieves, car thefts etc etc
4. No music to enjoy unless u buy an MP4
5. No mirror to look at like those in the Fitness centre

Contemplating of joining a Fitness centre but then in the end it will always be ending up as a fee paying member only but excuses like no time to go .. the time does not suit me etc etc etc

So decided to buy an Orbitrac - cycling + jogging fitness machine with my end of year bonus
Cycling half an hour will burn up 100 calories ...so l hour of exercises will burn away 200 calories...which is equivalent to the energy in 2 pears .....
Got to exercise ..hopefully to bring my super high blood glucose level down
15/12/2006- 14.8 mmol/L

18/12/2006 - 13.2 mmol/L

Took a Glucose Tolerance Test and the result will only be known in 2 weeks time , so in the meantime need to burn lots of calories to bring the blood glucose down.
New Diet:- to control the blood glucose I also took on a new diet call the "plate method".
One plate divided into 4 quarters...one quarter -rice , the other quarter protein like fish or lean meat..and the remaining half on the plates ...vegetables

No more coffee, no more nescafe three-in -one, no more kuih, no more "ABC", no more white bread and no more durians so many no mores..........
Hope and pray everything will be OK. What a great way to start 2007!

Fish Holiday Food Block

When fish lovers go for holiday, what to do with the"beloved" fish?

That is the dilemma faced by us when we planned to be away for 10 days. During last year end trip, 5 of our super fat and big goldfish and angelfish died while we were away...so sad......

To ask neighbours or relatives to come to feed your fish is one of the choices but very "mahuan "(troublesome) if they feed and your fish chose to die at that time ( who can tell when they will die?????) they will feel very bad too.

So this year I decided to give the so named -- Holiday Food Block to my fish while we were away. It claims that it not only feed the fish but it also helps to keep the water clean . Price : RM 5.90 per block.

This is what my fish look like after 10 days :

so the Holiday Food Block does works.

To Ipoh

After Genting we took a bus from First World Bus Terminal to Ipoh. Rm 25 per pax. Claim to be the first bus with massage chair but the massage chair does not work at all. better call it the first bus with rocking chair cos it does rocks.after 3 hours journey reached ipoh.

Travel advice is when in Ipoh never ever call malay taxis cos they really cut throat people. From Gopeng to Fair Park hotel they want to charge RM 15. Met a family of ipoh people on the same bus so they radioed call a taxi for us which costs only Rm 8.

Stayed at Fair Park Hotel..nice ...cosy ... hotel at RM 79 per night complete facilities like mini fridge, tea and coffee making facilities... free internet at the lobby...

Went to send son's car back to Kuching.. very stressful experience indeed cos met a towkay who wants to earn money only but very poor management.. imagine sent the car to him, he checked ok.. then we left , went back to hotel, checked out, then on the way to KL , suddenly receive a phone call from his office ask me to give him the original car registration card...... what the heck????.. ask me to ask the bus driver to stop the bus and wait for him to come to get it....
that is only one part...... the worst is yet to come.......

so when in KL we went here...KTM all the way to Port Klang to met the agent to pass hime the original car registration card..... with thoughts coming up like..what if they sold off my car.. who is the agent in Kuching etc etc..can these people be trusted.....

Reached Port Klang at 11am and waited for the agent till 2pm...3 hours of waiting.. still never mind.. the worst thing is after that he told us that all the things in the cars need to be taken out ...can only sent an empty car...OMG... those are heavy books... clothes...bags etc etc ..If like that tell us early then we would have make other arrangement for the luggages in Ipoh.. and all this while my friernds, colleagues, realtives have been sending cars back with all the luggage inside.....moreover how to bring those luggage from Port Klang to KL? Feel really helpless at that time!! After lots of telephone call to that towkay in Ipoh he promised to ffot the bill of sending the luggage by a different ship..OMG... the story does not end there......

To destress we went to Tambun Lost World In Sunway city to soak our worries away....
